Many people in Juneau still do not know about its existence. What are the best,imaginative ways to get the planetarium known?
We need people to design the posters for the monthly shows and help us figure out the best places to distribute them,and to get the word around about the shows. We will reschedule our first of the Wednesday shows back in the FALL.
We need to maintain and update the exhibits in the planetarium room and also the ones around Juneau, such as "The Planet Walk" at Twin Lakes. This past July 4th our volunteers theme was "PLIGHT of the PLUTOIANS" . This was a funny comment on Pluto's new status as a DWARF PLANET. CLICK on the FOLLOWING to see our slideshow of our parade. Help us come up with show ideas and if you want do some research to present them.We plan on doing shows other than just astronomical topics. This Valentine's Day, for example, we plan on having the night sky slowly pass by to live music.We are also scheduling "Yoga undet the Stars" evening.
We hope to encourage the community to visit by presenting imaginative topics.
We need people to help up operate the starball. People who learn how to make the stars shine will eventually learn the constellations of Juneau's night sky and hopefully help in presenting shows for the planetarium.
For the summer we will have RAINY DAY STARS showings on Tuesdays.. We meet every TUESDAY from 6:00 - 7:00 pm at the Marie Drake Planetarium only if the weather is bad. Please call 586-1517 for more info.
Teachers and Group Leaders are especially encouraged to become planetarium volunteers and become familiar with the equipment so they can use the planetarium room and equipment and put on shows for their classes or groups.
Learning how to use the equipment is EASY.
